Gurindji strike against NT Intervention

On Wednesday 20 October 2010 workers from Kalkaringi and Daguragu, two Aboriginal communities on Gurindji land in the Northern Territory, stopped work and held a protest against the NT Intervention attended by more than 200 people. This video documents the deteriorating living and working conditions suffered since the Intervention and the determination of local people to fight for Land Rights and equal pay, reviving the spirit of the famous Wave Hill walk-off in 1966.

On 20 June 2009 rallies were held across Australia to mark the 2nd anniversary of the then Howard Government’s “Intervention” in the Northern Territory. At the Melbourne rally, which was attended by some 200 people on a wintry day, one of the main speakers was Valerie Martin from Yuendumu, NT.
